Privacy Policy for CurrencyQuickPeek

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how the CurrencyQuickPeek Chrome extension collects, uses, and protects your information.

Information Collection and Use

Our extension collects and uses the following information:

  1. User Preferences: The extension stores your currency display preferences locally in your browser using Chrome's Storage API. This data never leaves your device and is only used to remember which currencies you want to see in conversion results.
  2. Selected Text: When you select a price on a webpage and use the context menu, the extension processes the selected text to extract the currency and amount. This information is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted or stored except as described below.
  3. API Requests: To provide real-time currency conversion, the extension sends requests to the Exchange Rate API (https://open.er-api.com/). These requests only include the currency code from your selected text (e.g., USD, EUR) to fetch the relevant exchange rates. No personal information or browsing history is sent to the API.

Data Storage

All user preferences are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's Storage API. We do not maintain any external database of user information.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer any of your information to third parties. The only external communication occurs when fetching exchange rates from the Exchange Rate API, and this communication is limited to only what's necessary for the currency conversion functionality.

Permissions

The extension requires minimal permissions to function:

The extension can read and modify the content of the webpages you visit (through content scripts) only to display the conversion results popup. This is done entirely within your browser and no webpage content is transmitted anywhere.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any changes by updating the version number in the extension.
